[chapter 03 ;; scene] - somewhere only we know.
who: Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi.
where: Meggiora Highlands; outside of Sheridan.
when: a few nights after the Raine/Marta/Some dogs group arrives in Sheridan.
warnings: Emil's bringin' sexy back. ;D
It was now that she put her plan into motion.
Marta had successfully snuck out of the sleeping quarters of the inn, her bag on her back, her dual spinners by her sides, and her feet moving toward the exit of the city. She was out relatively easily. She walked a little ways into the meggiora highlands, feeling the night breeze on her skin as she looked ahead of her.
... It was unsafe to travel at night. But she was doing it anyway. It was the only time she could get away without Tenebrae following her.
So, careful to make sure of her surroundings, Marta led herself into the highlands that night, walking to find herself some way out.
Which, admittedly, wasn't easy. This place was either surrounded by water or desert. She sighed. Okay. Well. The hard part was done. She could figure out what to do from here now.
... if she didn't get attacked by monsters first. Which was likely to happen, if the sudden predetorial screech from a bird monster nearby was any indication. Marta gasped, whirling around and pulling out her dual spinners.
This wasn't good.

"W-where are all these monsters coming from?!" Emil yelped as he ducked into a nearby crevice in the rock.
What do you think, you idiot?! Rem muttered inside his head. Give me a moment, I'm taking over your body.
"E-eh?!" Emil blinked, finding himself fading out... the next thing he knew, he was staring down a dead monster. He yelped, screaming loudly as he stumbled backwards and tripped, landing face-first in the dirt. Finally, the poor replica calmed down enough to stand up and scramble out of the dead monster's vicinity. Good timing, too -- several of the monsters nearby had pounced on the carcass. "C-couldn't you have... done that less bloodily...?"
Where's the fun in that? The sentience responded.
Emil sighed. "N-never mind... w-we're almost at St. Binah, though?"
I should think so... Rem responded, guiding Emil towards a path that would eventually end with him finding Marta. Down this route, I think.
The replica sighed, merely nodding defeatedly as he went down that road. "I wanna get out of here already..."

Well. She was being overwhelmed quite easily. And what didn't help was that she knew there were more on the way. Marta grit her teeth, getting up and getting into battle stance once more, waiting, waiting for the bird to come at her again ...
Only to find out her intuition was correct again. Two birds came at her, and Marta, while trying to fight one off, was doing all she could not to be thrown back again.
But that was inevitable, it seemed.
She was thrown back, and skidded to a stop right at Emil's feet.

Oh, crap, what was he supposed to do now? The bird monsters converged on their location, except now they were more fierce than ever now that they had prey. The replica cried out as he was thrown into a nearby rock face, the birds circling overhead and getting ready to divebomb him...
"...hahaha... you wanna fight, you bastards?!" Suddenly, with a flash of light Emil's eyes turned a dark crimson hue as Rem rushed forward, dodging the first bird's attack and slashing its stomach open as it passed by, killing it almost instantly. Then, with an almost mocking laugh, he jumped over the second one and drove his sword into it, pinning it to the ground.
"Ha. I was expecting more of a challenge." With that, Rem lopped the bird's head off, sending blood splattering against the rock face as he sheathed his sword.
Seemingly talking to Marta (but really talking to Emil), Rem muttered, "You can thank me later for that." And as quickly as it happened, the replica's eyes reverted back to their soft green color as Emil blinked, looking around the area again.
"...huh?"

One: There was blood on her. Splattered on her. Had she been hurt? No .. she was in pain, but it wasn't that bad.
Two: ... the birds were dead.
Well, that explained a lot. Marta groaned, pushing herself to a sitting position and placing a hand to her head, shaking it.
"Ow ..." she murmured, trying to will her eyes to focus in the dark. She couldn't see much ...
That was ... so weird.

She didn't look hurt... Emil dug a gel out of his pack and handed it to her for good measure, though. One could never be too sure, after all.
"H-here... are you okay? Y-you looked like you could use some help..." Emil responded sheepishly, smiling nervously at the girl. "T-try not to move too much, though... y-you look hurt. T-that'd be bad if you got hurt more..."
no subject
She had to admit, she was taken with him almost instantly. It didn't help that he was really cute.
...
Wait, what was she thinking? Marta shook her head and accepted the gel, nodding a little bit.
"Um ... thanks." She got up to her feet with the help of the boy, brushing herself off a little, and she got a closer look at him.
... yeah. Really cute. And covered in blood.
Wait. Blood?
She looked around at the dead birds around them.
"Did you ... save me?"
no subject
He soon nodded in response. "I-I guess... t-they looked dangerous, s-so... I don't know what happened, but next thing I knew, they were dead, and... yeah." He scratched the back of his head sheepishly, looking at Marta.
...and wow, she was cute. But that wasn't what he was supposed to be focusing on right now.
"A-anyway... you're not hurt, are you?"
no subject
"I-I'm fine!" Okay, Marta. No. No noticing the really cute guy next to you's bare chest. There were more important things to worry about.
"Uh .. we're near the water, at least? We could probably go clean some of the blood off in the water."
Okay. So, he didn't remember how it happened, and Marta supposed she shouldn't care, but this guy didn't remember how the birds were killed. They weren't a problem anymore, though, and that was all that mattered.
Still, there was a question in her mind.
"What are you going all the way out here, anyway? Are you going to Sheridan?"
no subject
He nodded, liking the idea of cleaning off some of the blood in the water. "Th-that would be good... besides, I think we could both use it." Emil pointed towards the scattered bloodstains on Marta's clothing, before looking at his own lab coat. "I hope these wash out..."
He looked up at Marta curiously at the question, though.
"N-no... I'm heading for St. Binah."
no subject
"If you're going to St. Binah, you're headed in the wrong direction. This is Sheridan. And I'm leaving it right now." She started moving toward the water so she could wash herself off. She stopped just short of the shore and looked back at him.
"You coming?"
no subject
If Marta could read minds, she'd be overhearing a very interesting conversation Emil was having with his other self.
---
...I thought you said that we were going the right way?
...SHUT UP. IT LOOKED THE SAME ON THE MAP.
But this is Sheridan, not St. Binah!
Oh, be quiet. It looked the same...
...you're not good with directions, are you?
SHUT. UP.
---
"I... I see!" Emil laughed sheepishly as he nodded, following her towards the water and not hesitating to walk into the river and start pouring the water onto his bloodied clothes and body. Though a question did enter his mind -- Emil turned hs head towards Marta curiously, tilting his head to the side.
"W-why are you leaving Sheridan, though?"
no subject
She froze for a moment before continuing to clean herself.
"I'm a fugitive," she answered simply. He seemed trustworthy enough. "There were people that I was traveling with, but ... I don't want them to have to deal with my problems. And they would, eventually. Daddy's very persistent on getting me to come back, and I .. I can't. I just can't."
no subject
"I... I see..." Emil nodded, shivering a little. "I'm kinda trying to flee myself... I-I've also got people who are after me."
Suddenly, an idea hit him. "H-how about we run away together?"
no subject
This time ... it seemed okay to have someone around. And she was glad for the company, especially if she was going to leave Tenebrae behind.
So, she dunked herself underwater and came back up, holding the flowers in her hair to her head as she did so, then grinned a little and splashed Emil with water.
"Okay! Sounds like a plan!" And then she realized something, and swam over to the shallow side to walk over to Emil, holding out a hand.
"My name's Marta. It's nice to meet you, and I'm glad to be working with you."
Oh, he was cuter in the moonlight.
no subject
He returned the smile, though, taking her hand in his. She was so warm... and still oh-so-pretty, too. The night did wonders with enhancing her beauty.
"I-it's nice to meet you, Marta... m-my name's Emil."
no subject
"So, Emil. Want to play in the water some more before we head out?"
no subject
"I... I don't mind if we do, Marta. It feels really nice..."
