[CHAPTER 02 - SCENE] Maybe Someday

Who: Luke fon Fabre, Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear
Where: Aboard the ferry on the way to Baticul Port. After Luke talks with Tear.
When: After Choral Castle, before Baticul.
Warnings: None.

After talking with Tear, Luke found himself shuffling around, feeling the tiniest bit better. Well, maybe. Rubbing the back of his neck, he sighed. He really couldn't wait to get back home. He came across the cabin Natalia was occupying, and wondering if she was in there or not, he began knocking. It was an odd sensation, since it was always the other way around during the past, her coming to the manor and knocking on his door. Or, rather, yelling at the maids for losing track of him once again. Those memories brought a smile on his face ever so slightly. "Natalia, are you there?"

Natalia was looking forward to returning to Baticul; after everything that had happened, the familiarity of her home would be refreshing. Even though she knew she would need to explain herself to her father, as well as explain that her disappearance hadn't been a part of some scheme, she was still relieved.

A knock on the door brought her out of her thoughts, and she smiled at the sound of Luke's voice. It was a little unusual for him to come to her, although that was mostly since he'd never been permitted to leave the Fabre manor, but it was a welcomed change.

"Yes, one moment," she called, before moving to open the door. "Is something the matter, Luke?"

Ah, so he was worried about Guy as well. That made sense, considering the two were friends.

"Yes, it would be bad," Natalia agreed with a short nod, "I'm not sure what I'll say exactly, but I will explain that Guy had nothing to do with my leaving." Of course, trying to explain the situation without implicating Chester as well was going to be a tricky feat. Even if he hadn't returned to Baticul with them, she didn't want to see anything happen to him should he return to the city at a later time.

The blonde thought for a moment, then added. "I won't allow anything to happen to Guy, I promise.

Oh dear... XD;

'Surprise' was likely an understatement in regards to the way she felt hearing Luke's suggestion. He used to be content with pushing any work off on others -- even if that work was something as simple as giving an explanation. Natalia couldn't be certain of why he had said that, but it was a nice change. Perhaps some good had come out of this journey after all.

"I'd like that, Luke. Thank you," she replied, smiling. Not that there was much that needed to be figured out, but it could raise some questions if their stories differed in any way. "I do not think Father would ask you about how I was able to leave Baticul, but as for what happened after we were able to find each other again... I'm sure it would cause quite a commotion if we told him different stories."

"Yes, that's right. Chester and I left Kimlasca a few days after Guy. As luck would have it, we were able to find him -- or rather, he found us -- shortly thereafter, too." She paused. Luke did raise a valid point; just how did Guy know to look in Malkuth territory? "Perhaps he felt the White Knights were capable enough of searching Kimlasca? It would have been much too difficult for a search party from Kimlasca to enter Malkuth territory as well, so perhaps Guy felt he would have better luck searching in Malkuth."

That seemed to be the only logical explanation, at least. It was a little strange, but Natalia supposed it didn't matter too much anymore. Luke had been found, and that was what was important.

"Moving on, we eventually caught up to the Tartarus, where we were all able to reunite again. From there we traveled to Kaitzur, and then we were required to take a bit of a... detour to Choral Castle. Does that sound about right?"

"From what I understand, it seems the ones who took you to Choral Castle were working independently. I don't think Father will let the actions of a few wayward soldiers sway his decision on the treaty, but..." Natalia sighed. It certainly didn't help the Order look any better, at any rate. Hopefully the Fon Master's presence would help keep any rash decisions at bay.

"I admit that their behavior is odd, but we shouldn't allow the God-Generals' actions affect our thoughts on the Order as a whole. I don't know what their motives were, but they -- and the Order of Lorelei as well -- certainly can't want a war to happen." There would be far too many casualties if the peace treaty fell through, and no one could want that, right..?

Natalia nodded. It was a rather simple way of stating it, but it was true nonetheless. "That's right; war is something we want to prevent. As for Choral Castle... I believe you may be right. Between Dorian General Grants and the Fon Master, I'm certain they could explain the situation better than we could." After all, the God-Generals were under Van's command. Even if they had been working without his knowledge, surely he could've discovered something between then and now.

"I'd rather keep Chester out of trouble as well." No good would come from him being punished, especially since she had been the one to insist on everything. She'd also promised that nothing would happen to him, and she was determined to keep her word. That would have to wait until she was able to speak with her father back in Baticul though; right now there was something else she wanted to know.

"By the way, Luke, just what did happen between you and Tear?"

"Oh. I see." It was... a little unsettling, if she were perfectly honest. If something had happened because both Luke and Tear were Seventh Fonists then, as the redhead had already said, that didn't make sense. Tear wasn't the first Seventh Fonist Luke had met, so why..? Perhaps she could try getting an explanation from one of the others later.

Natalia sighed. Really, she should've expected to have the question (with Chester replacing Tear, of course) directed back to her. She wasn't exactly sure why she was so hesitant to explain, but Luke had been honest with her thus far. The very least she could do was return the favor.

"I needed help to leave Baticul. Guy had already gone, despite our having a prior agreement, so Chester was the only one I could turn to." That was the truth of the matter, though after a brief pause, she added, "He's a friend."

Although there was always a possibility, Luke was probably right. Chester wasn't likely to return to Kimlasca anytime soon, and Natalia doubted her father would permit her to leave the city again for a while, given she had disobeyed him.

"No, I think that covers everything. Now we must simply wait until we arrive home." A shame, really... Natalia wasn't sure whether or not Luke had planned to go off again once they discussed what to say (as well as what not to say) to her father, but she wasn't ready for their time together to end just yet. It might've been a little selfish, but she wasn't too proud to admit that even she had her vices.

"Although, it shouldn't be too much longer before we arrive at the port." There was a short pause -- after all, she wasn't entirely used to requesting things like this -- and then she smiled. "...Would you walk with me, for a little while? The city should become visible soon, and... it's a truly lovely sight."
