[Chapter 01 - SCENE] In Daath Cathedral, Ion's Chamber
[[Who:]] Anise and Ion
[[When:]] In the Beginning.
[[What:]] Anise visits Ion in his Chambers and consoles to him about a rumour.
It was midday and the sun pierced through the skies of Auldrent. Everything seemed to be fine, and it was quite peaceful. There were no clouds in the sky, and it was a warm day as well. A girl about five feet, and perhaps short for age was wandering through the streets of Daath, and glancing at each stand as she passed, on her way to the Cathedral. She had recently for about two years now, became a Fon Master Guardian and quite enjoyed it. The teen looked like a child nonetheless,. Her hair was tied up in two high pigtails and they were a dark almost black brown. she wore a pink and white clothes with a yellow cat on her shoulders.
She skipped happily up the steps of the Cathedral and passed through its large double doors. Seeing her parents doing the same thing they were always doing, the young girl slowly made her way to the right of the Cathedral, where the door stood and through those doors, there were portals that led to different levels of the Cathedral. The girl made her way to the center and chanting its words right, and the portal's bright snow light brought the teen to the front of the Fon Master's quarters, and with that the girl made her way through the doors towards the other's room. Boy, they had a lot to discuss.
Sitting at his desk when Anise entered the room, Ion didn't look up from the papers spread out in front of him, but he did give a smile and a light greeting, recognizing her footsteps instantly. "Hello, Anise," he nodded slightly, brushing the feathery edge of the quill pen in his hand along his chin, then writing something down. "Is there something you need?" Of course, he wasn't trying to be impolite by asking that question; as Fon Master, he had quite a few protocols to follow, after all.
Anise waved back at the demon as she skipped in being her cheerful self as always. It seemed nothing could bring the girl's happiness down, but something of course would sooner or later. Her bright brown hues looked over at the Fon Master that was focusing on writing something, and curious to what it was, she tried to take a peek at it., "not really, I was just gonna check on ya is all," she replied as the girl hovered faintly over the Fon Master. Though, she had a hard time trying to peer at what Ion was doing.
"Say, Ion, what are you doing?" she mused.
"My duties." Ion smiled, glancing up from the papers finally, laying his pen down at the side of the desk. "Nothing that can't wait, though. I just wanted to get it out of the way
Anise took a few steps away as the Fon Master glanced away from his papers and set his pen down. Anise skipped back to her original place in the room, so she could see the Fon master at the least, " That's boring," she mused. as the pigtails on her head bobbed a bit as she replied to him, shaking he head slightly, "Honestly Ion, don't work yourself too hard," the girl added in a somewhat worried tone towards the boy.
Ion laughed softly, shaking his head a bit and gathering the papers into a neat pile. "I'm not going to overwork myself doing paperwork, Anise," he replied gently, standing up once he'd finished and pushing his chair neatly in, giving a soft sigh and flexing his cramped fingers back and forth as he stretched lightly. "Something's on your mind, isn't it?" he asked suddenly, though his eyes were closed as he indulged in the pleasure of his stretch.
The girl laughed nervously as the Ion asked her. Yes there had been something on her mind, but she didn't really want to bring it up, and it was kind of hard to hide things from The Fon Master, considering he was quite perceptive. Were her actions that suspicious, or did he see through her bluffing, either way, there was no getting around it for now, so Anise would reply to the Fon Master truthfully, "Yeah... well kinda," she mused twirling a strand of her hair as she retorted to the Fon Master.
"Would you like to talk about it?" Ion opened his eyes then and fixed them on Anise, canting his head slightly to the side, the perfect picture of polite, wide-eyed innocence. "You know I don't mind listening."
"Eh, not really," she replied back with a slight sweating as she laughed rather nervously, "I dunno, it's just been bothering me," the teen replied to the other. She wasn't sure if she wanted to trouble the Fon Master with her concerns, but Anise really didn't like the idea of some war raging, at least, that's what she had been hearing from certain people, and it didn't seem that it was THAT bad or THAT out of hand just yet, but maybe she should tell Ion..
"Well..." the girl paused for a brief second before going on, "I heard there's a war starting with Malkuth and Kimlasca..."
Ion's expression quickly twisted itself into a frown, and he put a hand up to his face in thought. "It's only a rumor, Anise," he reassured. "But...if things go on as they are...well, right now there isn't anything we can do about it. No one's proven yet that anyone wants to declare war on anyone else..." He certainly seemed worried enough about it, though.
The girl's smiling face frowned a bit as well. Yes,, they were just rumours, but she shouldn't get too worked up about it, but then again what if something really bad happens? The girl lowered her hands to her sides and looked at the other with a stern expression this time, but smiled half heartily.
"Yeah, I guess you're right, but I can help but think about it," the girl added, "I mean what if it were true, then we would have a majour problem in our hands," she finished looking to the side., but she seemed rather calm about it at the moment, and considered Ion's words were reassuring enough, but she couldn't help it, after all who wants war, after so many years of peace?
"I guess we can't do anything about it, at least unless it happens... huh?"
Ion nodded, starting to slowly pace about, back and forth in front of his desk. "I wish there was something that could be done, but..."
"Yeah," the girl replied, "but that doesn't mean we can sit around! Should I got scouting for some more information?" the girl inquired as she slowly tried to bring the mood up again, since somehow their conversation went from a cheerful casual to being serious and serene. Anise didn't like being serious, but it had to be done once in a while, "but... what Ion?"
Ion just shook his head and sighed, then straightened his shoulders as if trying to shrug off the weight of the discussion. "I'd rather you stay where you'll be safe, Anise."
Aw, but..." the girl argued back, though, seeing that she needed to guard him as well, Anise couldn't really move away from her post now, could she? Damn it all, she was stuck to listen to Ion for now, "Booo.... fine, okay, I'll stay here," she mused shrugging bit as she said that, "seeing that I can't protect you when you're in trouble and all... when I'm not here."
"I'd be fine," Ion protested, but a soft, honored smile crept its way across his face. "You're the one who should be careful not to overwork yourself, at this rate."
"I'm not overworking myself, Ion, see?! I am perfectly healthy and a-ok!" the girl retorted back with a small pout on her lips. That wasn't fair, and plus, she wasn't overworking herself, no siree. The girl had her hands on her hips as she pouted as well leaning forward.
"Anise," Ion said sternly, but he couldn't keep up the serious facade for long, soon dissolving into a fit of gentle, melodic laughter.
"Hey, what're you laughing at Ion?! This isn't funny!" the girl retorted back, frowning this time, and not too amused with the Fon Master at the moment, "plus it's all true! I am not sick, and I can wrestle anything that tries to harm you!" the girl added somewhat very confident wit h her words.
"No, no, it isn't that," Ion hurried to reassure his guardian, stifling the laughter, though his smile remained. "I'm just honored you'd go to such lengths to protect me. You're very dedicated, Anise."
"It's my job," she pouted again at the Fon Master's reply. Though the next part made the girl grin rather widely though, seeing that it was true, in a way she is dedicated in what she did as her job, after all there were things she had to do and keeping this job was mostly priority, "Aahha," the girl laughed softly, "I guess I am," she jumped a bit, the hair on her head bounced slightly as she did so.
Ion gave another soft laugh, hiding it in a sleeve and coughing lightly to try and bring himself back to seriousness. "In any case," he started, returning to his pacing. "I think it's best if we just stay out of this until we're needed. But I'm sure we'll be needed soon..."
"Ion.." she paused for a second, "I guess you're right, we can't do much unless we know the details right? So let's just wait until then I guess!, the girl retorted, "I won't try to do anything, and wait," she smiled softly, as the girl shifted her position, away from the desk and on for a moment.
Nodding his agreement, Ion laced his fingers together under his chin, still pacing. "If a war happens now...no one is prepared for this..."
Or maybe... they’re just hiding it from us<3" the Fon Master Guardian joked in a playful way, though it sounded as if she were serious, however, but she couldn't help but think about it that way, but she shouldn't do anything, rash. Yes, wait, something she wasn't too good at.
Ion shook his head firmly. "No. I believe they wouldn't do something like that."
"I'm just kidding<3, don't get all serious Ion," the girl chimed grinning from ear to ear, as she tried to reassure the boy that she wasn't thinking of it intentionally, it was suppose to come out as a joke.
Ion hesitated, then smiled back; he'd known Anise had only been teasing him, but... "No, it's okay. I'm just thinking too hard about it, I guess," he replied.
"Look who's working himself too much," Anise retorted, "Yup, it’s just a joke, don’t take it too seriously Ion," she said, and reassuring him once more. The girl turned her form fully back to the Fon Master, "Anyway, you need to worry about things here in Daath anyways. Like you said, when something happens, we will surely know."
"Yes...I suppose you're right." Ion gave another smile, a tired one this time. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry Ion, just don't get yourself into trouble is all I ask," the girl grinned as moved over towards the Fon Master.
"Shouldn't I be telling you that?" Ion inquired innocently, canting his head a bit to the side again.
"..." the girl almost glared at the other, "Hey, what's that supposta mean?" she inquired once more, putting on her rather childish ct again.
Ion started to laugh again, "Nothing...nothing at all."
"I'll let it go this time," Anise replied sternly, "plus, I think I might have delayed your work visiting ya and all," she mused faintly, "stop laughing, there is nothing funny here," she almost pouted again, and if she was trying to be serious, she kind of failed that as well.
"You haven't interrupted anything. It doesn't need to be hurried along." Ion laid a finger alongside his cheek in thought, then abruptly gave Anise an impulsive, tight hug.
Anise let out a faint yelped when she was surprised by the other's sudden display of affection. Anise was a bit red for the time that he hugged her. Who knew that Ion could hug someone so damn tight, "I-I-Ion... what are you doing?!" the girl gasped as her face was still tinged a pale pink.
"Don't worry about it." Ion was smiling gently when he let Anise go, his hands lingering on her shoulders for a moment. "Just...thank you."
"Huh... um... yeah... you're welcome?" she almost stated that in a question. Her face was red still and the Fon Master could probably see her heated cheeks.
Ion just continued smiling, touching Anise's cheek lightly before moving to pull out his chair and sit again.
Anise's face turned even more red at the touch. She was practically silenced for the moment, seeing the girl was still getting over the shock. that the Fon Master just hugged her suddenly and thanking her for whatever the heck she did, which the Fon Master Guardian had no idea of... why.
"Feel free to stay," Ion said as he shuffled through the papers and pulled out the ones that still needed working on. "You won't be interrupting me."
"...Okay," the girl mused softly, a bit quieter this time.. Though, she was still trying to progress the thing that just happened through her mind, so she would grasp it, and at least try to understand it..
Apparently satisfied with that, Ion picked up his pen and went back to the papers, a comfortable silence falling that was broken only by the scratching of the quill's tip across pristine paper.
Anise stood where she was still, seemingly quiet this time, but she watched as the other went onto his usual of writing away on the paper with that quill pen, the redness of her face slowly died down, leaving a faint pinkish hue on her cheeks a bit. This certainly was an exciting day.
