Who: Jade Curtiss, Guy Cecil
Where: Between where the Tartarus was and Kaitzur
When: During the night after the Tartarus scene of doomage
Warnings: Jade is an evil sarcastic bastard

Guy was leaning against a tree, a bit away from the ring of sleepers around the fire. With a group this large, it was better that anyone on watch be out of the light of the fire, incase someone did come up. They were more likely to notice the group, than the lone figure in the dark. He stared off into the distance, hoping they could get back to Kimlasca soon.

Jade approached Guy from behind the tree. This would be as good of a time as any to ask the many questions he had for the young man. The major one being his relation to one of the God-Generals.

He also thought it would be amusing to see just how much the blonde was paying attention. That would also be a good thing to know, since he could well be a spy for the God-Generals and had pretended to aid them to gain their trust only to betray them later. It couldn’t hurt to be careful.

“So, if I may ask, what brought you and the others to such a remote area?”

Guy had been paying more attention to sounds and movement outside of their camp, so started slightly when the sound from behind him came. However, he recovered his composure before turning to the older man. "I came out here looking for Luke. Natalia came out independently, with Chester, and then they met up with Arche."

Jade sat down beside the young man. “But yet one of the God-Generals appeared to know you and to be related to you. Could you perhaps explain why this may be and why you should even be trusted?”

"I don't know who he is. The only family I have is my grandfather, who is back in Baticul." Guy glanced out at the open field. "As for trusting me... Luke and Natalia both can vouch for me."

Jade suspected something was not right here. The God-General definitely knew Guy, he had been able to give Guy’s weakness in the midst of battle. They had met previously, and then the resemblance was uncanny. True, the God-General was older, so he imagined some relation. “But yet you are hiding something even now. Have you met him previously?”

"We ran into him while looking for the Tartarus. Ion and Anise had escaped, and we fought him to try to keep him from getting them back." Guy shuddered involuntarily, remembering how his sword had felt.

And obviously that hadn’t been too successful since Anise returned as a hostage and Ion in the care of the Oracle Knights. But this was growing even more suspicious now. What if Guy had aided in their recapture?

“Could you explain in more detail what happened then? Beyond the fact that you obviously couldn’t help Ion. Not that I blame any of you, four civilians is nothing compared to one such as a God-General and his men.”

Guy shrugged. He'd get the same story from any of the others anyway. "We found Anise and Ion in a clearing in the woods. Anise mistook me for that God-General, and Chester just had to blurt out my... phobia..." Guy closed his eyes. "I was the only close-range fighter, so I went against him." Guy shuddered again. "I don't know him, but he seemed to know me... I'll admit, that threw me, and the next thing I knew, he had me pinned between his body and that sword, and I couldn't move."

“Well, at least we do have a way to tell if he’s tied you up somewhere and stolen your clothes.” Jade said while smirking. That was at least a good thing, though it would be more a way to torment Anise. He wouldn’t have trouble telling the two apart. He had seen enough of the God-General to be able to figure out the subtle differences of age, that and there were other features that were different.

“However, I am most curious, what led you to believe he knew you?”

Guy took a deep breath. Someone else would tell him, if he didn't. "He said he was my cousin... But... that's not possible..."

Somehow Jade doubted that. The God-General was probably telling the truth. It would be nearly impossible for two completely unrelated men to appear so alike, outside of a replica, but that was obviously not the case, there were differences in appearance.

“Were both of your parents only children then? That’s the only way it would be impossible, though there are other ways.” Jade was at least convinced that Guy hadn’t known the God-General before, but the blonde was still hiding something. What that was, he did not know, not yet at least. But he would find the answer sooner or later.

"I... I don't know," Guy had to admit. "My parents died when I was very young. Pere told me that I had no other family."

It appeared there was a rather unhappy family history here. From what little he saw, the God-General didn’t seem to care one bit if his cousin died, in fact was even aiding his comrades in accomplishing that. Though Guy had been the logical target in the previous meeting, he still attacked someone who he knew was a member of his family.

Very few wouldn’t hesitate at that, only the most hardened of veterans to battle. No, it was more likely the God-General has a more personal reason to target Guy, and they would need to find that out soon. Or else he would have to find some way to lose the blonde before he could be a danger to them all. It was unlikely that the God-Generals would not make another attempt to regain Ion, they were obviously very determined if they brought that many men with them.

Still, there had been many wars in the past, maybe this God-General had gone missing in one and was found by the Order and raised by them. Or considering the potential dislike, he left his family voluntarily for some reason and had been assumed dead. One who isn’t heard from in many years does tend to be assumed dead.

Or maybe this “Pere” was shielding Guy from the truth of a family member who would kill his grandson. That would make sense also, especially if the cousin hadn’t been seen in years.

“Well, it would appear he was mistaken somehow, which now could be a problem. It wouldn’t be difficult for him to try and pretend to be you and spy on us, or make use of your phobia as a weakness to kill you. He definitely isn’t an enemy to be taken lightly, but then none of the God-Generals are.”

"You think I don't know that? I know I'm a liability. But it's my duty to protect Luke, and I'm going to do that."

“You can’t protect someone if you are dead.” Not to mention, Luke was enough of a liability as it was. True, he would be helpful to secure them an audience with the Kimlascan King, but if he or the Princess got hurt or died on the way there, that would cause numerous problems too.

“Luke also lacks experience in battle, and I gather the Princess doesn’t have very much experience also. True, the God-Generals will need some time to recover and gather reinforcements, but they will be back.”

"Commandant Grants is also searching for Luke, at the request of Duke Fabre. If we continue through Kaitzur, we'll likely meet up with him." Guy mentioned. "Once we meet up with him, we shouldn't have to worry about the God-Generals."

That seemed strange. The God-Generals took orders from him, but they seemed all too willing to harm Luke. This was growing even stranger. All he knew for a fact was that they only seemed unwilling to harm Ion, but anyone else was fair game.

“That is saying they are even taking orders from him. If he is concerned for Luke’s safety, then why did they attack Luke? They seemed more than willing to harm him which goes against what you just told me.”

Guy shook his head. "I don't know. But it was Van who sent me to look for Luke, and the plan was to meet in or around Kaitzur."

Now that would be very interesting. Commandant Grants coming personally to find Luke? Why did he have such an interest in a Kimlascan noble that he would risk an attack from Tear again?

So many questions, so few answers. He only could hope that he figured out the answers before something happened. “And what about Tear? He would risk meeting her again knowing that she may well try to attack him again?”

Guy shook his head again. "You're asking me questions I don't know the answers to. Van specifically requested me to search for Luke, since I have training, and I'm Luke's personal servant. Anything further than that is beyond the scope of a simple servant's knowledge."

Somehow, Jade doubted that was the complete truth again. Why would a personal servant for a boy who never left his manor need training with a sword? And how had Van even known a mere servant knew more than he should? “Ah yes, I had forgotten, though at times servants know quite a bit more than one would think.”

And then there was the fact that Guy hadn’t been too far behind Luke and Tear when there was no possible way he could have known where they might have been. It could have been sheer luck, but that’s doubtful. Guy seemed to know a bit too much about Malkuth for a Kimlascan servant to a boy who hadn’t been outside the manor in years. His swordsmanship also wasn’t in the least bit rusty from years of disuse.

“Then how about a question you can answer, how did you find Luke so quickly?”

"A search was already being implemented in Kimlasca. Van figured, from the direction the hyperresonance took, that they could've made it into Malkuth territory. He was going to take a ferry south to Kaitzur Naval Port, so he sent me on foot via the Rotelro Bridge. When I found Natalia and Chester, I stayed with them."

Even with a general direction, that still left plenty of ground to cover and they seemed to be aware that Luke had been on the Tartarus even before meeting with Ion and Anise who could have told them that. “So you were searching for the Tartarus assuming that Luke and Tear had been arrested for trespassing then?”

"It was in the area, so it was a good idea to at least check it out. Besides, we'd heard rumors that monsters had been seen on board. That sounded fishy to us."

“I assure you, breeding monsters isn’t among my hobbies.” Where had such a rumor come from? He couldn’t see Ion mentioning it, it didn’t sound like there had been time. They came upon Ion and Anise. Anise mistook Guy for the God-General, Chester opened his big mouth, the God-General came and Ion was taken away.

Guy glanced at the sky. "Anything else you wanted to interrogate me over?" he asked. "Because I think it's almost time for the next watch, and I'd like to get some rest soon."

“Maybe if you weren’t trying to hide things I wouldn’t have a need to ask so many questions to know if you will hinder this mission or not. This isn’t exactly an act of kindness in returning a lost noble to his home.”

"I wouldn't expect it to be." Guy retorted. "And excuse me for not wanting to spill my life's story to an enemy soldier."

That was the problem, without knowing certain details Jade had no way of knowing if allowing this group to join them at least as far as Kaitzur would be helping them or hindering them. He had a mission to accomplish and the letter and Ion’s safety were far more important than anything else. “Then you will have to accept this enemy’s apologies if your presence hinders the mission I was given. I won’t let anything or anyone hinder it or cause any harm to Ion. Though at least I know Anise can easily deal with you, if you are hindering our mission.”

"And know that if you even appear to endanger Luke or Natalia, that I will have to retaliate as well, of course."

“I can honestly say that their being harmed would go against the purpose of the mission I am on. Luke has been treated most fairly considering that he was trespassing in Malkuth territory, though unintentionally.”

And that would be all he would tell Guy about this mission for now. Until he knew more, there was little he really could say without risking hindering the mission further.

But he would definitely be keeping an eye on this young man until they arrived in Baticul. If he wasn’t going to talk, then he would have to learn through observation.

"Fair enough," Guy admitted, although he was sure that Luke's opinion of his treatment would be vastly different from Jade's. Guy glanced back at the ring of sleepers, and noticed two forms moving around. "It appears that our replacements are stirring, so I am going to get some sleep."

Luke’s opinion would indeed differ. The redhead had no idea that he could have been much worse off. Had another group been nearby instead, Luke and Tear could well be on their way to Grand Chokmah now rather than being returned to Baticul. “Yes, it would appear to be so. I know my old bones could use some rest.”
