Warnings: Grand Maestro Mohs should be a warning.

"So what are your dreams?"

Senel looked over to the one who had asked the question. It hadn't been a long time since he first met Marta Lualdi, the daughter of the Grand Maestro, but in that short time, the two had become fairly good friends. The two were stuck in a situation neither much wanted; being the protector, and the protected. He was the protector.

The two were standing on a hill which overlooked the city when she asked that question. His response was to look over at her. The wind was blowing through her long hair, and she stood straight, her gaze focused on the city below them.

"Dreams?" He answered.

Marta smiled, and looked at him.

"Well, yeah. I mean, I can't imagine you want to be stuck here, looking after a troublemaker like me for all eternity, right? There must be other things you want to do."

Senel averted his gaze back toward the city, watching at people in the market district went about their daily shopping, and people near the cathedral prayed to Lorelei.

"I don't really know," he lied, though he did have some idea. "Guess I'm just waiting for something bigger to come along."

Marta snorted, but didn't say anything more. The two of them remained quiet for some time after that, simply watching the people below them.

"Aren't you going to ask me what my dreams are?" Marta asked, suddenly. Senel made a face.

"Sheesh, Princess, I'm sorry for being so rude," He retorted, causing her to laugh and twirl a little in place, which caused her to suddenly lose her balance and start falling down the hill with a short shriek. Senel acted quickly, grasping her hand in his own and pulling her up to safety.

"How many times have I told you not to--"

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Marta interrupted, brushing herself off and pouting a little. She sat down, chin in her hands as she returned her gaze once again at the city of Daath below her.

"But that's just it, you know? All my life, my Dad's just been so overprotective." Senel chuckled and sat down next to her.

"Well when you do things like that on a daily basis, I can see why."

"Still," Marta responded, her tone gaining a sort of sad note, "If I don't make my own mistakes, how am I going to learn from them?"

Senel fell silent after that. Marta brought up a good point. And yet ...

"A mistake like falling down a hill could be the last mistake you make," He sighed. This girl. So reckless. Another silence passed through the two of them. It was a tense silence. Senel didn't like those kinds of silences, especially from Marta.

"My dream ... is to go out there and see how dangerous the world is for myself. Without my Dad being able to stop me. I want to get out there and do something remarkable. Help the world. Maybe even end these silly quarrels between the countries. That sort of thing, Senel."

Senel looked to Marta, and saw the thoughtful look on her face. She meant it.

"Come on," he said, standing and holding out a hand to help her up. "Let's get back." She took his hand, and the two returned to the cathedral.

The next morning, Senel awoke to panic in the Cathedral. He stepped out to see what the problem was.

Marta. He had to make sure Marta was all right.

"COOLIDGE," a voice boomed. The Grand Maestro himself was coming toward him. He shook Senel's shoulders, his face twisted in rage, his movements hasty and panicked.

"You must find my daughter!" Senel remained calm, raising an eyebrow.

"Sir, I was about to go check on her--"

"She's fled," he spat, pushing away from Senel, his hands curling into fists beside him.

"That girl has stolen something precious and fled. As her guardian, I order you to find her. Bring her back alive."

The Grand Maestro then stomped off to go calm the chaos of the Cathedral, leaving Senel Coolidge standing in the hallway, wide eyed and silent.
